About Us

Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology Started in 2017.

The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, situated at Third floor, in Faculty Block, deals with the medical aspects of the law and the legal aspects of medical practice. The Mortuary is present as separate building near Bio Medical waste management plant. It has adequate space for storing the 24 bodies at time and is well equipped with modern facilities for conducting Medico Legal Post Mortem Examinations.

Our Services

The department conducted average 600 Medico-legal Post Mortem Examinations since the year 2017. The department conducts examination of accused of Sexual assault routinely. Medico Legal age estimation of the cases coming to the Institute are done by the faculty of the department and the department conducted 12 cases of age estimation. The department also conducts postmortem of brought- in dead cases, as a service to the public.

Besides the above, the department conducts training classes for the MBBS students, Police Officers, Judiciary officers, and students of various other paramedical courses.

Special Services :

The department extends expert opinion in various cases to the Investigative agencies.

The faculty of the department delivers lectures to the trainees as well as officers of the various investigative agencies at the SP camp office and AR Training Institute, Pudukkottai Govt of Tamil Nadu.
